About Dr Amanda M. Nickson

Amanda grew up in Sydney, with her parents (until their separation when she was 17) and her younger sister. Her childhood was spent doing many musical activities including playing piano, singing in choirs, playing chamber music and in orchestras and playing tennis. After she finished school, Amanda went to the University of New South Wales to study Social Work; was actively involved in her local church youth group, beach missions and enjoyed bushwalking. She started working in social work in western Sydney before moving to Central Queensland.

Dr Amanda M. Nickson is a wife, a mother, a social worker and a Christian. Amanda chose to do social work as her profession as an extension of her Christian faith, being able to help and serve others at their point of need. She has worked in a variety of positions in government, non-government organisations, academia and private practice. She has worked in a range of fields: community development, individual and family work, group work, community education, covering issues as diverse as child protection, juvenile justice, adoptions, health, defence, homelessness, domestic violence, finance and refugees. She lectured in social work for 13 years at James Cook University, in Townsville. She currently runs her own business, Interactive Solutions, www.interactivesolutions.org.au in training, supervision, social work services and organizational consultancy.

Amanda has a PhD in Social Work and is recognised in her field as an expert in social work supervision. Whilst an accomplished professional and public speaker, in this book, Amanda is focusing on her first love and passion, her Christian faith and how living by faith is at the core of everything she does.

Amanda has been a Christian for over 40 years and has served as a leader in various positions in her local church. She is a registered Supervisor with Chaplaincy Australia. Her passion is to encourage others in their journey of faith and to help bring people to a closer personal relationship with God.

Amanda now lives in Townsville with her husband, two of her three adult children, her dog Jaffa and her cat Kitty. She loves nothing more than catching up with friends with a cup of tea, especially Devonshire tea or High Tea and making time to walk in nature, such as in beautiful national parks nearby and those further afield.
